Fresh off the announcement desk — xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Max will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 6.9-inch flat display, and an 8,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has confirmed more details about the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max ahead of its China launch later this month, and the upgrades aren’t subtle. The phone will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 6.9-inch flat display, and an 8,000mAh battery. Earlier, Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing described the phone as a “fully upgraded” version of the regular Xiaomi 17 rather than simply a larger-sized model. Based on what the company has confirmed so far, that description actually feels accurate.

Xiaomi 17 Max confirmed specifications

Xiaomi has officially confirmed an 8,000mAh battery, while leaks continue pointing toward 100W wired charging support. The figure immediately stands out in the premium-tier segment. Most premium smartphones today still stay somewhere around the 7,000mAh mark. Xiaomi, On another note, seems to be pushing the 17 Max in a different direction entirely. Instead of prioritising ultra-thin hardware above everything else, the company appears to be building a premium-tier around endurance, multimedia use, and long gaming sessions without constantly reaching for a charger.

The regular Xiaomi 17 already occupies the compact premium-tier category with its 6.3-inch display, Leica-backed triple 50MP cameras, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and 6,330mAh battery. The China-exclusive Xiaomi 17 Pro Max pushed toward larger-screen people with a 6.9-inch display and a 7,500mAh battery. The 17 Max now appears to go even further by combining a larger battery with a more aggressive camera setup.

Xiaomi shared the details through teasers posted on Weibo. The company says the Xiaomi 17 Max uses the same display panel found on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It is a 6.9-inch flat display that Xiaomi claims offers visual quality comparable to a 2K panel, although the exact resolution has not been confirmed yet.

Performance will come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, as expected. Xiaomi has confirmed a 200MP Leica-backed primary camera alongside a periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Rumours additionally suggest a 50MP ultrawide sensor.

Visually, Xiaomi seems to be sticking to its familiar premium-tier design language with slim bezels, rounded corners, and a large circular rear camera module. Black, blue, and white colour options have already been confirmed, while some reports suggest ceramic or carbon fibre-inspired finishes may continue on select variants.

Xiaomi 17 Max India launch tipped

The Xiaomi 17 Max is already available for pre-orders in China, with the official launch date expected to be announced soon. Tipster Yogesh Brar claims discussions are currently underway to bring the phone to global markets, including India. He also says the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro are set to launch globally on May 28th.

If Xiaomi does bring the 17 Max to India, the phone will likely target someone who cares just as much about battery life as performance. That audience features gamers, heavy travellers, and people who simply want fewer charging breaks during the day. At the same time, an 8,000mAh battery inside a premium phone naturally raises questions around weight and comfort. For people who prefer larger displays and long battery life, the Xiaomi 17 Max already looks like one to watch out for. This phone is clearly not for those who prefer compact flagships.
