If you missed the launch, the Xiaomi 17 Max will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, an 8,000mAh battery, and a Leica-backed triple rear camera setup.

Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Max will launch in China on May 21st at 7 pm local time (4.30 pm IST), becoming the fifth model in the Xiaomi 17 series alongside the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The launch event will also include the Xiaomi Band 10 Pro, Xiaomi’s first clip-style TWS earbuds called Xiaomi Ear Clip, and the Xiaomi YU7 GT (2026) electric SUV.

This is the first time the company is introducing a ‘Max’ model in its main premium-tier smartphone series. With the 17 Max, the focus is on battery life and larger-screen usage, unlike the compact standard Xiaomi 17.

Xiaomi 17 Max key features and specifications

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Max will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the same 3nm processor used across the rest of the Xiaomi 17 family. The bigger distinction is the battery. The phone includes an 8,000mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 6,330mAh unit inside the regular Xiaomi 17 and comfortably among the biggest batteries currently seen in a mainstream premium premium-tier. Xiaomi 17 Max

The standard Xiaomi 17 was positioned more like a compact premium-tier, with a 6.3-inch display and a relatively manageable 191-gram body. It catered to people who wanted top-end hardware without carrying around an oversized phone. The 17 Max goes in the opposite direction. It looks like the kind of phone designed for people who spend long hours gaming, streaming, travelling, shooting videos, or simply dislike carrying chargers everywhere.

The camera hardware also pushes the phone firmly into premium-tier territory. Xiaomi has confirmed a Leica-backed triple rear camera setup with a 200MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens. The company has also revealed Blue and White colour variants ahead of launch.

Xiaomi doesn’t appear to be treating the Max like a stripped-back “battery phone.” Usually, devices with very large batteries compromise somewhere else, either on cameras, charging speeds, or industrial design. Here, Xiaomi seems to be trying to keep the full premium premium-tier checklist intact. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed the weight or thickness yet, but fitting an 8,000mAh battery into a premium-tier phone rarely comes without consequences. Buyers looking for one-handed usability or lighter designs may still gravitate towards the regular Xiaomi 17 instead.

Xiaomi 17 Max India launch

For now, Xiaomi has only confirmed This product for China, though tipsters claim there will be a wider global rollout, including India, especially since the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max are China-exclusive. If the Xiaomi 17 Max does arrive here, it could help Xiaomi fill a noticeable gap in its premium lineup. The Xiaomi 17 begins at Rs 89,999 in the country, while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra begins at Rs 1,29,999. So there’s a fairly open space in the upper-premium segment. The Max could fit into that bracket, closer to devices like the OPPO Find X9 Pro, Vivo X300 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S26+. Buyers who care about zoom photography and long battery life equally should watch out for this upcoming premium-tier.
