Vivo S60’s design teased ahead of launch; leaks point to Snapdragon 8 series processor and over 7,000mAh battery
Vivo's product manager has now officially teased the S60's design ahead of its launch amid the specifications being circulated as of late.
In case you were waiting for clarity, launching in China soon, the Vivo S60 is the company’s upcoming mid-premium camera and design-focused smartphone. While the phone’s key specifications and features have already been reportedly revealed by the renowned tipster, Digital Chat Station, Vivo’s product manager has now officially teased the S60’s design ahead of its launch. Historically, Vivo phones launched under the “S” branding in China have generally landed in the country as V series phones. Hence, there’s a high chance the S60 could be rebadged as the Vivo V80.
Vivo V60 key specifications leaked ahead of launch
Here’s what Vivo’s product manager has to say about Vivo S60’s design
Vivo’s product manager, Han Boxiao, has shared new details about the design philosophy behind the upcoming Vivo S60 series, amid the growing leaks circulating over the last few weeks. Through a Weibo post, Han says that the Vivo S50’s “Winter Confession” colourway was well received by the people for its clean, warm, and soothing white tone The Vivo S60 series, on the other hand, is shifting gears to match the summer season. The new design aims to capture a refreshing seaside atmosphere. This time around, the phone(s) will carry a silvery-white back panel, inspired by the shimmering reflection of stars on the sea during summer nights. When the light hits the back panel, the tiny blur spots on the back will shift dynamically as the phone moves, enhancing the “shimmering” visual. That being said, it’s only fitting for a Vivo phone under the S lineup to focus heavily on the rear design in order to appeal to the targeted audience. From featuring glowing designs to carrying colour-changing panels, Vivo has always been in the race to come up with innovative designs, and this time it’s no different.
Now, Moving on to the specifications, per DCS on Weibo, the Vivo S60 will sport a 6.59-inch 1.5K display, likely with AMOLED technology, with rounded corners. This appears to be the same panel as the Vivo S50 series, which arrived in the Indian market as the V70 and V70 Elite. Powering up the Vivo S60 could be a Snapdragon 8s series processor, indicating a strong close-to-premium-tier performance.
With the battery capacity rumoured to go beyond 7,000mAh, the phone will be equipped with 90W fast charging. Moving on to the cameras, DCS says the S60 will carry a Sony IMX8-branded telephoto periscope. If we’re to speculate, DCS is likely referring to the Sony IMX882, a 1/2-inch sensor that Vivo commonly uses in its telephoto cameras. Apart from the Vivo V70 series, the same sensor was used on the Vivo X300 FE, X200 FE, T4 Pro, and others.
Additionally, the phone will carry an IP68/69 rating for protection against dust and water and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is known to work reliably well even with wet or sweaty fingers, and a metal frame. While Vivo’s product manager detailed the white colour shade of the S60, DCS claims that This product will also come in a pink shade, along with a special edition in collaboration with a Chinese comic IP.
If the leaked specifications are accurate, the Vivo S60 is shaping up to be a well-rounded mid-segment to upper-mid-segment phone, much like its predecessor. By blending a beautiful summer-inspired design with meaningful hardware upgrades, Vivo is continuing the successful formula of the S series by delivering striking aesthetics paired with practical, everyday specifications. There is clearly a strong audience for this type of smartphone, and Vivo appears to be listening to them closely.
