Fresh off the announcement desk — in an attempt to let shoppers enjoy the experience of using a premium Samsung smartphone, the company has officially unveiled the ‘Certified Re-Newed’ programme. As the name suggests, under this programme, Samsung will be offering refurbished premium-tier and midrange devices with genuine parts and components at reduced prices. These devices will be sold with a one-year warranty and will receive the same software updates as their brand-new counterparts.

What separates Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed from other refurbishers and third-party sellers?

Already operational in multiple countries, including the US and South Korea, the programme is Samsung’s official pathway for selling refurbished smartphones. Unlike third-party refurbished sellers, Samsung manages the entire restoration process in-house to ensure the devices meet original manufacturer standards. The biggest highlight of the scheme is that every phone is backed by a one-year warranty from Samsung, just like how it is with a brand-new device, which ensures worry-free usage if any fault occurs down the line.As part of the programme, all devices are restored using original Samsung parts and undergo rigorous testing. Every phone is factory reset to ensure complete data removal from the previous owner, and is loaded with the latest software to ensure up-to-date security. Lastly, all the original accessories are provided to the shoppers along with the refurbished phone in a new box.

A website dedicated to the Certified Re-New programme is now live, which not only details the programme’s entire benefits, but also allows people to directly purchase refurbished Samsung phones from there.

Samsung phone | Launch price | Refurbished price
Galaxy S25 Ultra (256GB) | Rs 1,29,999 | Rs 97,499
Galaxy S25 (256GB) | Rs 80,999 | Rs 58,749
Galaxy A56 (12+256GB) | Rs 47,999 | Rs 32,749
Galaxy A56 (8+256GB) | Rs 44,999 | Rs 31,499
Galaxy A36 (8+256GB) | Rs 35,999 | Rs 23,249

In our take, the programme sits perfectly in line with Samsung’s long-term software commitment across price ranges. For instance, while the Galaxy S series devices come with seven years of assured OS upgrades, the Galaxy A and M series smartphones are also graced with at least six years of OS updates. Since the devices are being supported for the long run on the software front, it makes sense to give discarded devices a second life, which not only helps reduce electronic waste but also allows shoppers to purchase high-end Samsung phones at more affordable prices.
