In case you were waiting for clarity, realme is reportedly working on a new phone with a 165Hz OLED display, and a 9,000mAh battery.

A new mid-segment phone from Realme could be shaping up with a mix of high-refresh display and large battery, if a fresh leak is accurate. Tipster Debayan Roy claims This product is currently in development and may launch under the P series or Narzo lineup in the country.

The tipped specifications include a 165Hz flat OLED display, a choice between the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 or Dimensity 7400, a 50MP primary camera, a roughly 9,000mAh battery, and an IP69 rating. The positioning suggests a mid-segment device, likely in the Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 bracket where Realme’s P and Narzo series typically sit.

High refresh rates moving down segments

A 165Hz panel in this segment would stand out on spec sheets. High refresh rates have been steadily moving down from premium phones, but 165Hz has so far been limited to higher-priced models. OnePlus started the 165Hz brigade with the OnePlus 15, and has since extended it to devices like the OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Nord 6. But the catch is pricing. The Nord 6 still sits just under Rs 40,000, which keeps 165Hz out of reach for lower price tiers.

Battery sizes going up in the mid-segment

The reported 9,000mAh battery fits into a broader trend. Larger batteries are becoming more common across segments, helped by newer cell technologies. For comparison, the OnePlus Nord 6 already offers a similar 9,000mAh capacity, while Realme itself has gone further with devices like the Realme P4 Power 5G and Realme Narzo Power 5G, both featuring 10,001mAh batteries in the country. Clearly, battery size alone isn’t a differentiator anymore. It’s becoming part of the baseline expectation in certain mid-segment segments, especially for people prioritising endurance.

On the chipset side, the tipped Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 or Dimensity 7400 places the phone closer to upper mid-segment performance. That also brings it into indirect competition with devices like the OnePlus Nord CE 6, which is confirmed to feature an 8,000mAh battery and a 144Hz display.

If this leak holds, Realme’s approach looks to be bringing higher-end display specs into a lower price band. For shoppers, a 165Hz display sounds appealing, but its practical benefit depends on app and game support. Similarly, a 9,000mAh battery improves endurance, but also adds weight and size.
