Worth noting for Indian buyers — worth noting for Indian shoppers — the Realme 16T is set to launch in the country on May 22 via Flipkart and Realme.com

A reliable industry tipster, Abhishek Yadav, has shared a retail box image of the upcoming Realme 16T, revealing an MRP of Rs 55,999 alongside the phone’s About Device screen. The leak comes just days ahead of the phone’s confirmed India launch on May 22, 2026, and the price tag, while high on spec sheets, fits into a broader trend of rising MRPs across the mid-segment segment in the country this year.

As per the leaked images, the Realme 16T runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, includes an 8,000mAh battery, 8GB physical RAM with up to 10GB RAM Boost, and a 50MP plus 2MP dual rear camera setup with a 16MP front camera. The processor should manage daily tasks, social media, streaming and casual gaming without too much trouble. The 6.8-inch LCD display gives a large canvas for media consumption, though it will not match AMOLED panels for contrast and colour depth. 1 of 2

The post also claims that the phone does not support 4K video or 1080p at 60fps, which suggests the camera experience is focused more on photography and social content rather than video output.

What’s been officially confirmed

Ahead of the launch, Realme has officially shared details about the 16T’s camera and battery capabilities. The 50MP main camera uses a Sony IMX852 sensor with an F1.8 aperture and autofocus, paired with Realme’s LumaColor IMAGE Engine, which applies AI processing for skin texture, skin tones and edge sharpness to produce cleaner portrait shots, especially in tricky lighting conditions. The phone also comes with AI Portrait Glow, which works by analysing facial lighting in low light and applying brightness compensation while keeping skin texture looking natural. It supports multiple lighting styles, including flash, rim light, natural light and studio light. On the creative side, Realme is adding a rear Selfie Mirror that lets people preview framing in real time while shooting with the rear camera, similar to what the recently launched Realme 16 (review) offered. Other key features include AI Popout Collage, AI StyleMe and AI Instant Clip. Realme also claims that the phone can last up to three days on a single charge with its 8,000mAh battery and deliver around 11 hours of continuous 60fps BGMI gameplay, all within an 8.8mm slim body. The 45W wired charging should mean reasonable charging time, and for anyone who spends long hours away from a charger, the phone will suit them quite well.

This approach also mirrors what several rivals are doing in this segment, where battery life, imaging features and day-to-day efficiency now matter more than raw peak performance alone.

Is the leak price true?

The MRP on Indian smartphone retail boxes is rarely what shoppers actually pay, and mid-segment phones have seen prices edge up this year as brands pack in bigger batteries, more capable cameras and newer chipsets. The Realme 16T fits that wider trend, especially with its 8,000mAh battery and AI-focused camera features.

The official May 22 launch on Flipkart and Realme.com will confirm the actual selling price, which leaks currently place between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 across three likely variants: 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. Full pricing details will follow at the official launch.

If the final launch price indeed falls within the Rs 20,000-25,000 range, the 16T’s massive battery and AI camera features could make it a compelling option for people who want good endurance and photography over raw performance.
