OPPO Reno 16 series launching on May 25th in China; larger batteries and new Snap Key expected
The OPPO Reno 16 series is set to launch in China at the end of this month. The India launch may follow later.
Here is what you need to know: oPPO has officially confirmed that the Reno 16 series will launch in China on May 25th. The lineup is expected to include the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro initially, though reports suggest more variants could arrive globally later, including a Reno 16 Pro Mini and Reno 16C.
OPPO Reno 16 series specifications and features
As per the details leaked so far, the standard Reno 16 will feature a 6.32-inch 1.5K 120Hz flat OLED display and run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8550 chipset. The Reno 16 Pro is expected to use a larger 6.78-inch 1.5K 120Hz flat OLED panel alongside the newer Dimensity 9500s processor. OPPO appears to be keeping one option for people who still prefer a relatively compact phone without compromising too much on specifications, though a more advanced Pro Mini could also launch later, just like in the last series.
Battery capacity could also be slightly. The Reno 16 is tipped to feature a 6,700mAh battery with 80W charging, while the Pro model may pack a 7,000mAh battery with support for both 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. Both the Reno 15 and Reno 15 Pro come with 6,500mAh batteries.
Both Reno 16 models are also expected to feature the same camera setup: a 200MP Samsung HP5 primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP OIS periscope telephoto lens. A 50MP front camera is also tipped. On the design side, OPPO is expected to bring metal frames and IP69 certification across the lineup. Leaks also suggest the series will introduce a new Snap Key, which appears similar to the Plus Key on OnePlus phones for shortcut-based actions and quick controls.
India launch
OPPO hasn’t officially confirmed India launch timelines yet, but reports suggest the Reno 16 series could arrive between June and July. The Reno 16 Pro carrying model number CPH2863 has already appeared on India’s BIS certification database, which usually indicates that launch preparations are underway. Leaks currently suggest OPPO may bring multiple variants to India, including the Reno 16C, Reno 16, Reno 16 Pro Mini, and Reno 16 Pro.
For people on older Reno devices, especially the Reno 14 series or earlier, the Reno 16 lineup could offer more noticeable day-to-day upgrades through larger batteries, newer chipsets, and improved display technology. Buyers already using the Reno 15 series, That said, may want to wait for pricing and everyday battery performance before deciding whether the jump feels substantial enough.
