[Update] Nothing launches Warp app for file sharing, but deletes it hours later without official reason
Nothing has introduced a new tool to enable cross-platform file sharing. The app is called Warp and works through Google Drive and a Chrome extension.
Worth noting for Indian buyers — update: Just hours after launching the Warp app, Nothing seems to have inexplicably deleted it without official comment. This was noticed by Redditors who reported the Play Store listing for the Warp app has vanished for anyone who didn’t already install it. Even the Chrome extension is gone.
Nothing has introduced a new file-sharing tool, but it’s not the AirDrop-style solution many people were expecting. Instead, the company has introduced Nothing Warp, a cloud-based tool designed to simplify transfers between Android phones and desktops.
Warp works across Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux using a mobile app and a Chrome extension. Once both devices are signed in with the same Google account, people can send files, links, images, and copied text between them. Transfers are handled through Google Drive, with files uploaded on one device and appearing on the other.
In use, the process is simple. The app integrates into Android’s share menu, so sending a file feels like a natural extension of the system. Transfer speeds are generally quick, depending on file size and internet connection. Files are also automatically deleted from Google Drive after the transfer is complete, so they don’t remain stored.
Useful, but not a full AirDrop alternative
Nothing had earlier suggested that Quick Share could bring AirDrop-style sharing to its devices, particularly for Mac people. That hasn’t happened yet, and Warp takes a different approach. Unlike Apple’s AirDrop, which works over a direct local connection, Warp relies on the cloud. This makes it more flexible across platforms, but also means it isn’t instant and won’t work offline.
There’s also some overlap with existing options. Quick Share already handles Android-to-Windows transfers, while Google Drive can be used manually for similar tasks. Warp mainly reduces friction by bringing these steps into a single flow, rather than introducing a new capability. The Chrome extension does require broad permissions, which may be a consideration for some people.
For people of devices like the Nothing Phone 4a Pro, Warp adds a layer of convenience for moving files between phone and laptop. It works as intended and keeps the process simple. That said, it is not a defining feature. Alternatives already exist, and until Nothing offers a more direct, local sharing solution across platforms, Warp remains a useful addition rather than a reason to choose one device over another.
