Breaking it down simply — google and Samsung have partnered to introduce new intelligent eyewear. There are two different styles designed in collaboration with South Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster and American brand Warby Parker. The new smart glasses from Google and Samsung are powered by AI with Gemini Powering the device to help people navigate, ask about the surroundings, get real-time translations, and more. Similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, the new smart glasses also feature cameras and a microphone to record videos and take pictures.

Google x Samsung smart glasses

The smart glasses come in two designs—a stylish pair of sunnies from Gentle Monster and a more classic pair of eyeglasses from Warby Parker. There’s no release date yet, but the first set of this ‘intelligent eyewear’ is set to debut this fall in select markets. We should get more details about their availability in the coming months.

We’ve already become comfortable with the idea of smart glasses in everyday use, thanks to Meta’s RayBan glasses, which use Meta AI. Google follows a similar approach with the smart glasses powered by Gemini, known to be one of the leading AI assistants. When you’re wearing the glasses, you can ask Gemini about anything you see, like finding reviews for a restaurant or cafe. Navigation gets easier as the smart glasses are powered to give natural, turn-by-turn directions, based on where you’re standing and the direction you’re facing.

Not just taking calls or sending texts, Gemini can also summarise any missed messages through the smart glasses. Since they come with built-in speakers, you can listen to music, although the audio quality is something we can judge only through reviews. What’s more interesting is that the Samsung smart glasses can not only capture photos or videos, but Nano Banana in the background can actually edit them and even regenerate with your ideas.

Real-time translation is a key feature that can be quite helpful when you’re travelling to different countries. With the smart glasses, you can translate audio in real-time while talking to someone, and even translate written text. More features include using Geminig to order food for you or book a cab, and even learn a new language.

There’s quite a lot that you can do with this intelligent eyewear, which has been designed to work as a companion to your smartphone, and not necessarily replace it. We’ve already seen Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses become a popular pick, especially among creators. With Google and Samsung joining the competition and with more designs for people to choose from, the latest smart glasses will most likely become a hit. How they perform during everyday scenarios is something we can only determine through reviews. Since the launch is slated for this fall, it would be a long wait for the smart glasses. If you own Meta Ray-Bans, consider waiting for reviews to see if Gemini’s AI offers a significant leap.
